Job Opening at ISU: Post-doctoral positions in biology | CIRTL ...

The Howard Hughes Program for Innovation in Undergraduate Science Education at Iowa State University invites applications for two Post-doctoral Science Teaching Fellow positions in the field of biology. These are 2-year positions beginning as early as 1 July 2012. One individual will focus, in coordination with science faculty, on development and implementation of transformative active learning and hybrid course strategies for a large enrollment introductory biology course on cell and molecular biology. This will also include using assessment tools to document student learning and retention. The second Fellow will focus on developing and assessing inquiry-based labs for an introductory biology laboratory course that focuses on biodiversity.

The Fellows will join a large team of approximately 60 science faculty working on the HHMI project at Iowa State University. The overall project annually impacts approximately 7000 1st and 2nd-year science students in all our science departments. The program provides students the chance to experience the excitement of discovery and to develop their broader scientific skills. The Fellows will also have the opportunity to join a research group, providing additional opportunities for scholarship, publication, and professional development in biology.

Required qualifications are a Ph.D. in biology or life-science education, and a strong interest in developing excellence in science education scholarship. Success in this position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills as well as teaching experience.
