This App Helps You Find Business Travelers Near You

If you travel a lot for business, making friends while you?re on the road isn?t easy. Mobile app Here on Biz attempts to make your traveling experience a little less lonely by helping you discover other professionals who might be traveling for work in the same city.

The app works not unlike other location-based apps, such as Highlight that connects with Facebook to surface people near you. Here on Biz connects with LinkedIn and shows nearby professionals who are also using the app. This week the app updated to version 2.0, bringing with it a new look and some new features.

A ?Nearby? page within Here on Biz lets you know when professionals are near you. People are categorized by locals or visitors, so you can see at a glance if someone is traveling or at home ? the idea being that if you?re traveling for work, you might find another professional near you doing the same and have an impromptu networking session. Tapping on a person?s profile picture takes you to his or her profile page.

Your profile provides a basic introduction to you, such as your hometown and where you?re traveling, as well as information like whether you are checked in to an event.

Here on Biz can be an especially useful networking tool during events. The app lets you check in to different events -? for instance a conference ?- and immediately see others who are also checked in to the same event. You can also opt to share your event check-in on your LinkedIn activity feed.

Events you?ve checked in to stay on your profile and can be useful later, even when you?re traveling somewhere new. For instance, two people who attended a conference in San Francisco in June might re-connect in New York three months later at a different event. Without Here on Biz, the two may have never made the connection.

LinkedIn groups are imported into the app and help you find members of the same group while you?re out and about. You can also join additional groups within Here on Biz.

A ?My Network? page works as a way for you to keep track of where contacts are and who in your network might be traveling, as well as where they?re located.

Within the app, you can chat with connections you?ve made. Chats are double opt-in, so first you have to be connected with the other user, eliminating the possibility of receiving messages from a stranger.

Here on Biz version 2.0 is available now from the App Store.

How do you feel about using an app to connect with other professionals while traveling? Tell us in the comments.
