Shelters Becoming Overcrowded with Post-Fireworks Runaway Pets ...

SACRAMENTO-

Fireworks and pets don?t mix, and hundreds are filling animal shelters Friday morning after escaping the loud booms.

The Sacramento City Animal Shelter told FOX40 they have taken in more than 30 animals in just the first few hours they were open Friday morning. Plus, they said they have received many calls from people who are holding on to runaway dogs, waiting for the shelter to come pick them up.

Shelter officials believe they will reach capacity for their facility before the end of Friday.

They are urging anyone whose pet ran away Thursday night to stop by and check the shelter.
