North America Telugu Society holds conference in Irving | Irving Blog

Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji Sri Swamiji came to Irving Friday as part of the North America Telugu Society?s two-day conference at the Irving Convention Center. The event ends tonight with a carnival from 7 to 9 p.m. on the balcony of the center.

Irving Mayor Pro Tem Gerald Farris officially welcomed the group Friday afternoon. About 4,000 guests were expected to attend the conference that took over three levels of the center. Festivities included cultural entertainment, alumni gatherings, business workshops, film sessions, spiritual programs, medical sessions and more.

The Telugu people are from southern India and mostly from Andhra Pradesh, one of the 28 states of India. The Telugu language is the third most commonly spoken in India behind Hindi and Bengali.

The North America Telugu Society is a nonprofit that serves the Telugu people living in North America. Visit sambaralu.org.
