The API keys and secrets for Twitter's official apps have been leaked to GitHub, says The Next Web. Their exposure will likely force Twitter to reset its keys and secrets, as third-party apps could potentially use the data to work around official restrictions. Alternately it could loosen those restrictions, or simply shut-out third-party access to its APIs, although the latter is extremely unlikely.

Security has become a serious issue for Twitter in 2013. Although the social network has gained attention for some high-profile corporate account hijacks, the most serious incident came in early February, when data for some 250,000 accounts was compromised. Twitter has scrambled to respond, but so far managed to cope.
